Canyon Ranch [Day 1]

My mom and I arrived late last night to Canyon Ranch (the Lenox, MA location). After almost a 3 hour ride, we were happy to arrive especially walking into our awesome room. The bed were so comfortable and I felt so refreshed when I woke up this morning.

This morning, my mom and I went to the cafe for breakfast before our activity filled day. That is where I met up with Tina. We chatted about her stay at Canyon Ranch and what activities she liked. It was so awesome to meet her. I felt like I was meeting a celebrity blogger 🙂

I went with half a whole wheat bagel with cream cheese and lox with a side of watermelon.

I love that they had different sugar options.

After breakfast, Tina recommended the Advanced X-training.

Advanced X-training: Unleash your inner athlete! Advanced X-training is a fast paced 30 minute circuit style class designed to challenge your fitness levels. Using an indoor track and various types of equipment, participants will experience a total body workout.

It was a great class to start the morning with. There were 6 circuits that were each 1 minute: ropes, lunges, crunches with a medicine ball, push ups, kettle ball, and a lap around the track.

During the next section my mom and I split and did our own thing. She went to a morning stretch class. I went to the advanced spin class. The spin room was so cool! It had all these colored lights and there was service during the spin class, meaning a woman walked around and refilled your water if you needed it, got you a new towel, etc. The spin instructor was great and even used a couple songs I use during my spin classes. I like taking a spin class once in awhile rather since I teach them all the time.

After our classes we met up again and grabbed a smoothie.

As we sipped on our smoothies we took a little tour of the facility and walked around. Since we arrived so late last night, it was so dark we didn’t really see how beautiful everything is.

At 11:00 we went to a class called Stride.

Stride: A motivation group treadmill workout incorporating interval training.

45 minutes on a treadmill never flew by so fast. Alternating every 5 minutes was either 2.5 minutes of speed/2.5 minutes of recovery then 2.5 minutes of high incline/2.5 minutes of recovery.

We worked up quite an appetite and it was already time for lunch. I started with a salad from the salad bar, then ordered a veggie burger for my meal. I also had to try the gluten free chocolate chip cookies Tina raved about.

After lunch we headed to a lecture called Energy Crisis: The Story of Body Fat, Weight, and Fitness. The presenter was great,

Energy Crisis: The Story of Body Fat, Weight, and Fitness – What happens when lipids, sugars, and low VO2 collide? An exercise physiologist will examine the inner workings of how to make your metabolism, muscle, fat, and hormones behave in the land of plenty.

We went back to the room for a little to relax before our next activity.

Next up was Berkshire Beat.

Berkshire Beat: Capture the essence and movement of rhythm utilizing drum sticks and resist-a-balls! Not only is this class a blast, but it delivers real fitness results by combining traditional aerobic movements with the powerful beat of the drums. The choreography is designed to burn fat, improve physical activity and mental fitness and above all, be fun!

We never heard of this kind of class before and I am always up for trying new things, so we gave it a go. It was fun, but I don’t really see myself doing that kind of class all the time. It was fun laughing with my mom throughout the class, making fun of our uncoordinated dance skills at times.

By the time we got back to the room and showered, it was already time for dinner. There is just so many things on the menu, it’s hard to decide. We split a South American inspired soup with corn, onion, and yucca and Thai Chicken with peanut sauce cabbage wraps. I also got a small salad from the salad bar and chicken parmesan for my entree. We sat and chatted for awhile and I nibbled on some more cookies (they are addicting!!) and decaf coffee.

After dinner we made bracelets! It was so fun. There were so many beads to choose from. What do you think of ours?

Now we are back in the room relaxing about to watch a movie. Another busy, but of course fun day tomorrow.
