Tips for eating healthy on vacation

You’re feeling good, exercising, eating right. Then it’s vacation time. That shouldn’t be a license to go overboard. There are plenty of delicious food and fun vacation drinks. Allure of the Seas Royal Caribbean cruise had indulgent food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus open bars all day. I enjoyed my vacation and kept it healthy by following the tips below.

Tips for eating healthy on vacation:

  1. Keep a routine. Stick to your normal breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks schedule.
  2. Listen to your body. Eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full.
  3. If you are eating out most of your meals, be aware of the fact that portions are twice, even three times as large. Split an entree with someone or get leftovers for lunch the next day.
  4. It’s vacation, it’s pina colada time! Switch off between drinking an alcoholic beverage and a nonalcoholic one.
  5. Ditch the all or nothing mentality. If you happen overeat, start fresh and get back on track at your next meal.
  6. Snack smart. Choose fruit, yogurt, cheese and crackers, etc in between meals to keep fueled and energized to enjoy your vacation.
  7. Don’t restrict. Restricting can lead to overeating later.
  8. Try the 3 bite strategy. I cannot pass up the dessert menu on vacation. Knowing dessert was offered after every dinner I had to try them all! All you need is 3 bites to truly enjoy the flavors. Savor each one and let everyone else enjoy the rest.
  9. Stay hydrated! Carry around a water bottle with you all day.
  10. Don’t weigh yourself until a full week after and you are back to your normal routine at home and your body has adjusted.
